Chris Silverwood appointed as Sri Lanka’s new head coach

The former England head coach Chris Silverwood has been appointed as the new head coach of Sri Lanka's men's team for two years, SLC said on Saturday.

For the unversed, the Sri Lankan team has been without a full-time head coach since South African Mickey Arthur's contract expired last year in December. However, Silverwood expressed his excitement about his upcoming term with the island country.

"I am very excited to be on board with Sri Lanka, and I cannot wait to get over to Colombo. They have a talented and passionate group of players, and I am really looking forward to meeting up with the players and coaching staff very soon," Silverwood said after being appointed as head coach of the Sri Lankan team.

Silverwood's first competitive assignment with the Sri Lanka national team will be the upcoming two-Test series in Bangladesh, which still has a month to go.

"We are delighted to appoint Chris as the new Head Coach of the national team. He is an extremely experienced coach, and from our discussions with him in the recruitment process, it is clear he has the required qualities we are looking for to take the team forward," said Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley De Silva.

Silverwood stepped down from the post of England head coach in February after they lost the Ashes series 4-0 in Australia.
