Chris Lynn to play for Northamptonshire in T20 Blast 2022

In the latest development, the Australian top-order batter Chris Lynn will play for Northamptonshire in the T20 Blast 2022.

A few days back, it was reported that Lynn is in the final talks with the Northants to be the second overseas player alongside James Neesham.

Last year, he featured for the first time in England domestic cricket. The dashing opener represented Northern Superchargers in the men’s Hundred competition, and has valuable experience of playing in England.

Confirming the development, Lynn reckoned that he always wanted to appear in the County cricket tournaments and hopes to do well in the T20 Blast and entertain the fans.

"I have always wanted to play county cricket and I'm really looking forward to joining up with Northamptonshire for the Vitality Blast," Lynn said.

"The UK is a great place to play and I am hopeful that I can contribute with some good performances and also try to entertain the Steelback fans this summer," he added.

The captain of the Northants team, Josh Cobb termed the acquisition of the Aussie batter, an excellent signing. Cobb thinks the top-order will be strengthened with Lynn’s presence and adds that the Wantage Road (home ground) would not be big enough due to his six-hitting prowess.

"To get someone of Lynn's quality is an excellent signing. To get someone of Lynn's quality is an excellent signing. He fits the bill really well in terms of his power at the top of the order and fills that slot for us nicely,” Cobb said.

“I really get the feeling he has a hunger to go out there and perform and when he does Wantage Road certainly won't be big enough,” Northants captain added.

It is evident that Lynn is the leading run-scorer in the Big Bash League (BBL) history with 3005 runs in 102 innings. He captained the Brisbane Heat for 3 years and was named player of the tournament during his debut stint.

Cobb further added that the Aussie batter brings a fine leadership experience with him and will be helpful for the Northants in the upcoming season.

"Lynn captained the Brisbane Heat for a number of years too so for me personally he brings those leadership qualities as well. I'm looking forward to working alongside him and getting some different views he might have,” Cobb added.

In the last edition of the tournament, Northamptonshire emerged at the last position in the North Group points table with 4 wins in 14 appearances and would look to better their performances this year.
