  • Chetan Sakariya Shares The Reason Behind His Dragon Ball Z Celebration During Ipl 2022

Chetan Sakariya shares the reason behind his 'Dragon Ball Z' celebration during IPL 2022

Delhi Capitals (DC) pace bowler Chetan Sakariya had faced a lot of highs and lows in the IPL 2022 season. The franchise bought him for a whopping INR 4.2 crore, but he got to play only three games for them. However, despite fewer chances, he did well, claiming three wickets at an economy rate of just 7.64.

However, the young Saurashtra pacer made headlines with his unique celebrations. He recently revealed the reason for his one such celebration from the series 'Dragon Ball Z' when he removed Aaron Finch in IPL 2022.

While speaking in an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda, Chetan Sakariya shared that his celebration after dismissing the wicket of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener was dedicated to his late father.

"The day I played and dismissed Aaron Finch, and I did that Dragon Ball Z celebration. Whenever the character did that, he used to get teleported to wherever he wanted. So I, too, teleported myself to my father and told him that, look, I have got an international player out. So that was really unique for me," Sakariya explained.

However, Chetan Sakariya also shared how his father indirectly motivated him to get an 'international player' dismissed, which will help him be recognized as a good bowler.

While talking about that, the player had this to say, "Since I wasn't a part of the playing XI, I began to feel very lonely. I used to have sleepless nights and used to miss my father a lot. He used to tease me at times by saying that he would consider me a good bowler only if I dismissed an international player,"

However, Chetan Sakariya is currently playing for the Saurashtra Premier League (SPL). While this IPL season has seen several talented youngsters taking the limelight from others, the 24-year-old believes that there are several such players in the domestic circuit, too, and when they develop, they will show what they can do in the IPL.

"There is a lot of young talent coming through from Saurashtra, especially fast bowling all-rounders. There is still a bit of time as they are U19 and U23 players. But definitely, Saurashtra will produce a lot of players in the IPL," the bowler concluded.

Adil Rashid still optimistic about return to Test cricket

After making his debut in 2009, England leg-spinner Adil Rashid made great strides in international cricket across all formats of the game. However, a shoulder injury forced him to reconsider his red-ball cricket career. He last featured in the whites for England against West Indies in January 2019 and went wicketless, giving away runs at an economy of 4.5. Since then, he has not featured in any of the first-class fixtures for the Yorkshire team also. Rashid has given a hint on returning to the longest format of the game, and revealed that the newly appointed England red-ball coach Brendon McCullum had an interaction with him. The 34-year-old spinner reckoned that he is not yet given up on his Test career and still dreams of appearing in red-ball cricket in the near future. "Brendon's reached out to me - just a text to check how things are. I've not closed the door on Test cricket. I've not retired or anything like that. It's something that's still there. It's everyone's dream to play Test cricket and I'm no different," Rashid told Daily Mail. Rashid thinks that the partnership of McCullum with England red-ball captain Ben Stokes is exciting and drives him to return to the oldest format. "It's always exciting when something new comes along. Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes both like to be positive and attacking. That drives me on and it's very exciting," The experienced spinner gave an update on his shoulder injury and said, "been quite good now for a while, though I have to stay on top of it." However, he thinks, "a lot else has got to happen" if he has to play Test Cricket again for England. Earlier this year, Yorkshire coach Ottis Gibson had also opined on Rashid's comeback to red-ball cricket. The next round of County Championship 2022 will take place in September, and it will be interesting to see if Rashid opts to feature for Yorkshire. Currently, the selectors have not found their attacking spinner for the red-ball cricket, and the likes of Jack Leach and Matthew Parkinson are yet to deliver their best performances. With 60 wickets in 19 Test matches at 39.83, Rashid will hope to return and bring the luck with him for the Stokes-led team.
