Chaminda Vaas appointed Sri Lanka's bowling coach

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has been appointed as the bowling coach of the side. The former left-arm pacer has been roped in for the upcoming tour of West Indies after David Saker resigned from the post. 


"Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of Chaminda Vass as the National Team’s Fast Bowling Coach for the Tour of West Indies," SLC said in a statement.


"His appointment comes following the resignation of David Sekar, who was the National Fast Bowling Coach. Vass currently serves as a ‘Fast Bowling Coach’ at the High-Performance Center of the SLC, working with Emerging and National Team Players," it added.


During his illustrious career for Sri Lanka, Vass captured 355 test wickets from 111 matches and also 400 ODI wickets from 322 games.


Sri Lanka will play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests scheduled to begin from March 3. The fixtures will take place in Antigua behind the closed doors.

Glenn Maxwell was picked up by RCB after an intense bidding war with the Chennai Super Kings, as the two teams went toe to toe for Maxi. “Often Maxwell has been used in a finisher role, he is a multi-skilled player and he can bowl off-spin as well. It depends on what the team wants, we all look at how to bring the best out of him. We were after the X factor player and we got that in-form of Maxwell,” Mike Hesson, RCB’s director of cricket, said during a media interaction in Chennai. RCB bought Kyle Jamieson for Rs 15 crore, Daniel Christian for Rs 4.80 crore, Sachin Baby for Rs 20 lakh, KS Bharat for Rs 20 lakh, Rajat Patidar for Rs 20 lakh, Mohammed Azharuddeen for Rs 20 lakh, Suyash Prabhudesai for Rs 20 lakh, apart from Glenn Maxwell.

When Kyle Jamieson went to sleep at around 10.30 pm New Zealand time, he was sure of the chances that he would be picked for the IPL, but could never have guessed that he would wake up to become the highest-earning Kiwi in the IPL’s history. The 6’8” was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 15 crore Indian rupees. "I woke up around midnight and decided to check the phone - just trying to embrace the whole experience," Jamieson said in a video uploaded by his new team the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 26-year-old further expressed how former New Zealand quick and currently the bowling coach of Mumbai Indians, Shane Bond explained to him the enormity of the amount he was going to get. "I had a message from Shane Bond as it was going and he was saying, 'How good is this'. I didn't actually know what the amount of money how that translated to New Zealand dollars. It was quite cool to share that moment with him and ride that two or three minutes with him,” said the Auckland born. "I actually called my partner and actually woke her up. She was asleep. I then called mum and dad, they were up as well. I did that, then turned the phone off and tried to get some sleep," he added.
