CA defends it call of not touring South Africa

Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday postponed their tour of South Africa citing COVID-19 issues in the country. CSA later expressed their disappointment on the postponement of the tour. CA has now defended their call and described it as “heartbreaking”.

"We share their disappointment, we've all worked to make this tour happen," CA interim chief executive Nick Hockley told reporters.

"At the end of the day, the weight of medical advice and our duty of care to players and staff meant we were really left with no alternative."

Earlier, CSA’s director of cricket, Graeme Smith said, “We are extremely disappointed by the decision of CA.”

“CSA has been working tirelessly in recent weeks to ensure that we meet every single expectation of CA.”

“This was set to be the longest tour in a BSE (bio-safety cabinet or biological safety cabinet) comprising a three-match Test series that was scheduled to begin with Australia’s arrival later in the month. So to be informed about the CA decision at the eleventh hour is frustrating.”

The Australian side was slated to play three Tests in South Africa.

The postponement of this tour means that the New Zealand team has qualified for the WTC final.

Kane Williamson excited to be part of World Test Championship Final

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is very excited to be a part of the ICC Test Championship final after they became the first team to qualify for the final after Australia postponed their tour to South Africa. Williamson believes that having the final has added the much-needed context to the red-ball format. New Zealand is through with a win percentage of 70 which can be bettered only by India or England depending upon their results in the upcoming series. However, New Zealand will definitely go through as the 2nd team even if either of India and England wins the series by any margin. It’s exciting to play in the final of the first (World) Test Championship. Adding Test Championship has added context to Test cricket and it has been a really interesting move,” Williamson told Youtube channel Sports Today “I think we have seen that more so in recent months, where sides have made players benefit from opportunities to advance themselves into the final and that’s really exciting,” the Black Caps skipper said. One of the all-time greatest, Williamson has been in red hot form across formats and his appetite to score big runs makes him an integral part of the New Zealand set-up, and his leadership qualities have received plaudits from all quarters. New Zealand in all likelihood will meet either India or England in the final but the chances of Australia going through is also possible. If India wins the series by a 2-1, 3-1, or 4-0 margin, they will compete against New Zealand in the final. England needs to win the series by a 3-0, 4-0, or 3-1 margin. If neither of the team manages to win more than one Test, then only Australia will play the final which looks highly unlikely for now.
