The batting legend Brian Lara made a 45-minute visit to the West Indies sheds in Perth on Sunday, December 4 during the first Test to share some motivation in the Caribbean camp.

Lara addressed the dressing room and encouraged the visitors to keep their fighting spirit going following their valiant efforts against mighty Australia in the first Test of the two-match series.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith were the heroes for Australia as the hosts hammered the West Indies by a huge margin of 164 runs to take an unassailable lead of 1-0 in their two-match series.

For West Indies, Kraigg Brathwaite, debutant Tagenarine Chanderpaul, and Roston Chase were the most impactful players for the visiting party. They will face Australia in the second and final Test of the series in Adelaide on Thursday, December 8.

Meanwhile, West Indies assistant coach Roddy Estwick greeted Lara in the Caribbean sheds and also heaped praise on skipper Kraigg Brathwaite for his gutsy century in the second innings against Australia.

Here's what Roddy Estwick said:

“The Test team is a close unit led by Kraigg, he’s a quiet operator but a strong operator and he leads by example. When you see your captain fighting as he does, it obviously lifts the morale in the team to fight as well."

“The belief has been good all year, this is the first Test match we’ve lost all year. So we’ve been playing decent Test cricket."

“We knew coming here was going to be difficult, but we were happy with the way we fought, that people were prepared to battle and stay in the battle."

Estwick also opened up on Tagenarine Chanderpaul's debut and appreciated his spirited performance against Australia in the first Test. Notably, Chanderpaul Jr. smacked a sensational fifty in the first innings and backed it up with another valuable 45-run knock.
