BPL 2022 | Class apart Andre Fletcher makes easy work out of Sylhet Sunrisers

West Indian Andre Fletcher scored a quick fire 71* to chase down 143 runs with relative ease against Sylhet Sunrisers on Thursday, 3 February in the Bangladesh Premier League.

The innings which included 5 fours and 5 sixes was miles above the rest of the players that batted today and made sure that Khulna Tigers did not huff and puff while chasing, in what seemed like a stopping track.

He was supported by an anchor’s knock of Soumya Sarkar, who scored 43 off 31 balls to get some much needed runs under his belt. After Sarkar’s dismissal, Thisara Perera came out to bat and threw his willow at everything, managing to score 22 off 9 balls.

But, it must be mentioned that, this was Andre Fletcher’s day through and through, as the player worked out the wicket to perfection and made good use of the field restrictions early on. His ploy of lifting the balls just over the fielders worked to perfection and Khulna were up by 65 for no loss at the end of the powerplay.

Fletcher had scored 41 off those runs playing just 19 balls.

The powerplay set the chase up to perfection and the rest of it was done with much ease, and the target was taken down in 14.2 overs without giving the opposition much chance.

Earlier in the day, Sylhet found it very difficult to judge the bounce on the track and things were made worse by Fletcher’s exceptional fielding performance at point. The right hander who stays in the outfield as a wicket-keeper in most instances was a livewire in the field stopping low balls with perfection. The Khulna spinners made life very tough for the batters out there and Sylhet only managed to score 42 after losing three wickets in the first 10 overs.

When things seemed to slide down fairly quickly, Mohammad Mithun held the reins and scored a counter attacking 72 off just 51 balls alongside Mosadek Hossain who supported with an act of 34 off 30 to stabilise the innings.

This would not prove to be enough later in the day as Fletcher would blow away the reservation regarding the wicket and score at a rapid rate in the second innings.
