India's wicket-keeper KS Bharat revealed that he has received valuable guidance from former keeper batter MS Dhoni regarding his role in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Bharat is expected to take on the wicket-keeping responsibilities in the highly anticipated title decider at London's the Oval.

During a conversation with the ICC, Bharat revealed that he had the opportunity to receive valuable tips from the legendary MS Dhoni before the team's departure for England. Despite his responsibilities as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, Dhoni made time to share his insights and advice with Bharat.

"Recently during the IPL I had a word with Mahendra (Singh Dhoni). He (talked about) his experiences keeping in England as well as what would work the best for any wicket-keeper. It was a very good conversation and there were a lot of insights from that,"  KS Bharat told the ICC.

Bharat acknowledged the significant impact of receiving advice from Dhoni, especially when asked about the qualities that define a good wicket-keeper.

"It's the awareness - the best example is MS Dhoni, the awareness he has in keeping is outstanding. You need intent and passion to be a keeper, because keeping is a thankless job. You keep 90 overs in a Test day and you have to be concentrating ball by ball, so you have to accept the challenges and embrace it and be really passionate about contributing to the team,"  Bharat added.

Bharat's selection as the team's first-choice wicket-keeper was a result of Rishabh Pant's unfortunate car accident in December 2022. This opportunity allowed Bharat, who had patiently awaited his chance, to make his Test debut during the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy on home soil. Demonstrating his discipline behind the stumps, the Andhra Pradesh batter also grew in confidence with the bat, contributing 101 runs across four Tests.

Despite facing competition from Ishan Kishan, who joined the squad as a replacement for the injured KL Rahul during IPL 2023, Bharat is expected to be favored due to his exceptional wicket-keeping skills, which are well-suited for the English conditions.
