BCCI considering to organise Vijay Hazare Trophy from Feb 18: Report

The domestic one-dayer competition Vijay Hazare Trophy has been scheduled to take off from February 18, according to a report by Cricbuzz. The report further stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering to organise the tournament across the same venues where the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has been organised recently, except for Chennai and Ahmedabad—where the international Test series between India and England is scheduled to take place.

Just on the similar lines to that of domestic T20 competition, all of the 38 teams will be divided into six clusters while all teams in one cluster will be playing in one city before moving on to the city where knockout matches will be played.

The BCCI has zeroed in on Mumbai, Baroda, Kolkata, Indore, Bangalore and a venue in Kerala for the league matches while there is lack of clarity on venues for knockout games. But Ahmedabad which hosted the knockout phase of the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament will be out of contention as the Indian and English team will be playing the last two Tests of the series followed by a five-match T20Is series.

Kohli will be making his comeback as he was out on paternity leave during the latter half of the Test series against Australia and he will be eager to get back in the groove from the first Test. In the last Test he played against Australia in Adelaide, he looked in good touch and only a run-out could deny him a century in the opening Test of the series.

Dinesh Karthik led Tamil Nadu celebrated their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win to “Vatthi Coming” a song from the new Amazon Prime movie of Vijay Sethupathi called Master. The Tamil Nadu team defeated Baroda in the final by seven wickets at the Sardar Patel Stadium, in what turned out to be a one-sided affair. Chasing a target of 121, the Tamil Nadu team went cautious early on and then with Baba Aparajith anchoring the innings, Karthik and Shahrukh Khan led then to the win with quickfire runs at the end, finishing the match with two runs remaining. Baroda, which reached to the finals was never expected to make it and the Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal lauded the team for their brave campaign. Baroda defeated big teams like Haryana and Punjab in the knockout and Gujarat at the group stage even after their full-time captain Krunal Pandya had to leave in between after his father's death.

Virat Kohli's baby girl makes Instagram debut on Anushka's account

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have for the first time made public the picture of their first child. It was Anushka who took to his Instagram account to share a picture of the power couple with their baby girl. Earlier this month on January 11, the couple announced the birth of their first child. Then Virat Kohli had tweeted: "We are thrilled to share with you that we have been blessed with a baby girl this afternoon. We thank you all for your love, prayers and good wishes. Anushka and the baby are both healthy and we are feeling beyond blessed to start this new chapter of our lives. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time." Kohli came back to India on paternity leave to be with his wife who is a Bollywood star in mid of the series against Australia.

IND vs ENG 1st Test: Curator to roll out 'sporting' pitch with English look

As the time is nearing for the much-awaited Test series between India and England, there has been a lot of hype about the nature of pitches, especially at the Chepauk in Chennai. The curator of M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai has said that the pitch will be a sporting one and will assist all aspects of the game. He has said that pacers will get help on the first day, followed by batsmen’s days on the second and fourth day and it will start crumbling to help spinners on the fourth and fifth day. "We are working to get a sporting wicket. It will be a typical Chepauk pitch with an English look. It will work for all three departments. It will be a keen contest between bat and ball. First day, there will be something for the fast bowlers. Second and third days will favour batsmen. Fourth day onwards there will be wear and tear and support for the spinners,” curator V Ramesh Kumar, who will be making his debut as a curator of Test pitch said to ESPNcricinfo. The last Test between these two sides in India was also at the same ground, and it had thrown up different sets of numbers as the game progressed. Both England and India made merry with the bat in the first innings, while Indian spinners, in particular, Ravindra Jadeja bowled exceedingly well on a day five pitch to help India win the game by an innings.
