BCCI charges Boria Majumdar with two-year ban after Saha controversy

In a recent development, senior journalist Boria Majumdar reportedly has been handed a two-year ban by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the grounds of threatening, intimidating and bullying Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha.

In February 2022, Saha had revealed the screenshots of Majumdar's messages, with the latter using harsh words while asking for an interview.

Miffed with the derogatory messages, the wicketkeeper-batter was approached by the BCCI to share further details about the incident personally.

A committee including - BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal and councillor Prabhtej Singh Bhatiawas - was formed for the proceedings.

While the committee heard Majumdar's side of the story as well, the verdict, as reported by the Indian Express, came in Saha's favour, with the journalist now given a two-year ban that includes:

– Banned from getting accreditation as a member of the press in any match (domestic or international) in India

– Banned from getting any interviews with registered players in India; and

–Banned from access to any of BCCI or member association-owned cricket facilities

The Apex Council has approved the recommendations of the probe panel.

Although Saha did not share the name of the person, who he mentioned as a 'so-called respected journalist', at the time of posting the message, Boria himself admitted that it was him as he hit back at the cricketer through a video posted on Twitter.
