BCCI bats for induction of cricket in 2028 Olympic Games

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally backed the proposal of including cricket in the Olympics. The richest cricket board in the world now wants cricket to become a part of the world’s biggest sporting event. It was way back in 1900 when cricket featured in the Olympic games in Paris. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been pushing for the inclusion of cricket in the mega event for the 2028 Olympic games slated to be played in Los Angeles. 

BCCI was earlier apprehensive about the idea of pushing for the inclusion of cricket in the Olympic games as they had feared that it might lose its autonomy which might have a bearing in the decision making and they might become answerable to the country’s Olympic committee. However, they have changed its stance recently after a virtual Apx Committee meeting on Friday. 

"We are exploring that opportunity," BCCI treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal was quoted as saying by Reuters during a telephonic interview. 

"We're keen but how the modalities would be worked out, we're working on that aspect,” he added. 

Meanwhile, it must also be noted that BCCI has agreed to send their women’s team to the Commonwealth Games slated to be played in Birmingham next year. Cricket had first been a part of the Commonwealth Games back in 1998 when the South African men’s team won the gold medal in Kuala Lumpur. 

Arun Singh Dhumal further stated that the council has short-listed the venues which will host the T20 World Cup in India later this year. "We're discussing it with the ICC, it's a work in progress," he said.

It's good to be out of quarantine & train with the team: Anrich Nortje

Delhi Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje finally came out of his quarantine which was forcefully extended by a couple of days following a false COVID-19 positive report. The right-arm pacer has now joined the bio-bubble. In a video released by the franchise on their official social media handle, Nortje talks about his comeback, team’s preparations and the way the side has fared so far in the competition. Talking about finally coming out of the quarantine and resuming the training, the fast bowler said that it was pretty tiring for him to stay in the room for 10 days. “Tiring for me. 10 days in the room was quite a lot for me. But it was nice to get out and sweat it out and bowl a bit. So, really joined it and hopefully I can bowl it up from here on,” he said. Delhi Capitals have played two matches so far and have a win and a loss under their belt. When asked about the two clashes, Nortje said that the team played good cricket in both the matches but unfortunately failed to post a big total in the second match. “Yeah, I though we definitely did well in both the games. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a bigger score in the second match. I think we did well to sort of get to where we got and also to try restrict them to that scores. So in general, I think we’ve really had a good all-rounder performance so far and I hope we can just continue with that,” Nortje added. The tracks in Chennai and Mumbai haven’t been helpful for the batsmen. Mentioning about the pitch at Wankhede stadium, the Delhi franchise seamer said that it would be good to assess the tracks as early as possible. “If we can just assess the pitch as quickly as possible what we have to do. I think generally dew plays a factor. So hopefully we can try and be ahead of the dew and what we have to do when it does come and when it’s not there. So, I think probably that’s one of the factors besides the actual wicket,” he said. DC will lock horns Punjab Kings in Mumbai on Sunday. Nortje talked about the contest and insisted that there is no team that is a bad team and can come up with some good performance on its day. “There is no team that is a bad team. Everyone is really competitive and we are not going to underestimate anyone,” the DC fast bowler said. DC’s regular captain was ruled out of the IPL 2021 after injuring himself during the series against England at home. The South African expressed his disappointment on not having Iyer in the team this time. “Obviously, we are missing Shreyas Iyer but we definitely have a great combination and it’s just about picking up the right team,” he said.

IPL 2021: Kedar Jadhav could make the difference for SRH feels Pragyan Ojha

For the first time in the history of IPL, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost the first three matches of the competition and they have to change their plans in order to force their way back into the competition. If they don't start winning from now it could become a monumental task in the second half of the competition. They lost their third consecutive game against the Mumbai Indians and yet again they surrendered the match from a winning position. They were comfortably placed at 67/0 but the wicket of Jonny Bairstow triggered a collapse and they could never recover from that. Some lusty blows from Vijay Shankar towards the death overs got them closer but in the end, they fell well short by 13 runs. Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha feels that the experienced all-rounder Kedar Jadhav could solve their problems. He believes that Kedar should be given an opportunity in the next game and he can offer the much-needed experience in the middle-order. "He (Jadhav) has the experience of playing in Chennai. He has played for CSK, which was his home venue. He has practised a lot," Ojha was quoted as saying by Sports Today. "If he gets a chance, he is a quality player, and he has got that experience. When you see the middle order not doing that well, why not give Kedar a chance? He has the experience, and he has been there and done that," Ojha further added. Over the years, Kedar Jadhav has emerged as an integral part of the Indian limited-overs set-up. However, injuries have been a regular part of his cricketing journey and that has substantially limited his chances in national colours. Jadhav was previously part of the CSK set-up and his experience of playing at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai might solve some of SRH’s woes.

IPL 2021: It’s a new challenge the fact that it’s a day game: Simon Katich

It has been a dream start for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Vivo IPL 14 as they are the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far after the completion of the first week of the extravaganza. They started off with a nail-biting victory against the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the curtain-raiser. In the second encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, they looked down and out for the major part of the match but the RCB bowlers held their nerves and delivered a killer punch in the last few overs as run-scoring became pretty difficult in the final phases of the second innings. This has been the trend in this tournament so far and it will be interesting to see if it remains the same in the afternoon match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the lead-up to the mouth-watering clash, RCB posted a video of their last-minute preparation on their Twitter handle where one can see all the RCB outfit practicing hard ahead of the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Meanwhile RCB head coach, Simon Katich feels that although KKR lost their previous game against the Mumbai Indians from a winning position, they are still a very dangerous team and they will have to be on their toes to come out on the winning side. “We know that KKR played two very good games. They didn't quite get the result in the second game. But they did a lot right, and they are a very dangerous team. "We know they have a lot of quality with both bat and the ball. They will be keen to bounce back. We are keen to stay on a roll. We know there's still a lot of hard work that needs to be done in this tournament,” Katich said in the video posted by RCB on their Twitter handle. Given that this will be the first day game of the season, both teams need to get their plans right and execute them well in the match. Katich feels that it is important for both teams to get acclimatised to the conditions. It won’t be easy for both teams to play a day match in the Chennai heat. “It’s a new challenge the fact that it’s a day game. We know that the wicket has been hard work for the batsman at times. There's spin. It's been slow. It's a new challenge, but I know this group is truly hungry.” Katich further added.
