Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah lambasts batting order after awful display against Scotland

The first day of the World T20 2021 witnessed an upset after Scotland defeated Bangladesh in Al Amerat by 6 runs. Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah expressed disappointment on the way the side fared and admitted that the batting unit needs to up the game.

"I am very much frustrated," Mahmudullah said. "Our batting is a concern. We have to bat better. We have to play aggressive cricket, regardless of the situation,” he added.

The right-handed batsman further added that the batsmen weren’t able to hit boundaries and that eventually put the team under pressure.

"We didn't deliberately bat slowly. We couldn't hit those boundaries. We have to bat better next time,” he said.

The Bangla Tigers who started off the proceedings in a decent manner after the bowlers reduced Scotland to 53/6 before Chris Greaves steadied the ship along with Mark Watt as the two batsmen put 51 runs for the seventh wicket. Greaves struck a 28-ball 45 while Watt scored 22 off 17.

Later, Bangladesh had a dismal start to the chase after losing openers early and were 18/2 when Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan provided the resistance and stitched a partnership of 47 runs for the third wicket.

But Shakib’s dismissal broke the shackles and wickets started to tumble at regular intervals during the course of the innings. The Asian side was left tottering at 116/7 only to get restricted to 134/7 in 20 overs eventually.

When MS Dhoni slept on the floor to give Hardik Pandya his bed: India all-rounder reminisces days of past

Hardik Pandya, who is currently in the Indian camp at the T20 World Cup where MS Dhoni, would not be available as a player with the team for the first time in a World Cup since 2007. But Pandya is still happy that his ‘Mahi Bhai’ is still there to support him. Remembering an incident from 2019, when his one year ban by BCCI following the Coffee With Karan fiasco had ended and he was called on the New Zealand tour, Pandya said, "When I was picked for the New Zealand series (in January 2019, after the suspension was revoked), initially there were no hotel rooms (for Pandya in New Zealand). But then I get a call, saying, You just come. MS has told us, 'I don't sleep on the bed in any case. He will sleep on my bed and I will sleep on the floor.” The Indian all-rounder, whose fitness is a cause of worry as he might not be able to bowl in the T20 World Cup 2021, also expressed gratitude towards the two times World Cup-winning captain for always being there when he needed him. Talking about the incident that got him banned for a year, Pandya in an interview with Cricket Monthly said, “When all this happened, he [Dhoni] knew that I needed support. I just needed a shoulder, which he provided multiple times in my cricketing career. I never saw him as MS Dhoni the greatest. For me, Mahi is my brother. I respect and admire the fact that he was there when I needed him the most.” The 28-year-old who has not featured in a match against a big nation off late, with his last international match coming against Sri Lanka is ready to bounce back and play the role of a finisher in this World Cup. He considers that with Dhoni not in the team anymore, it adds up extra responsibility on the Baroda born to play the finisher’s role. "The biggest so far, I will say, because this time I don't have Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Everything is on my shoulders - I like to think that way because it gives me an added challenge. It is going to be exciting, a cracker of a tournament," he said.

Stayed up all night to watch Ireland beat Windies in 2015 WC: Joshua Little wants bigger memories in 2021

When Ireland take the field on October 18 at the Shiekh Zayed Stadium in their first T20 World Cup 2021 game against fellow Europeans the Netherlands, fiery fast bowler, Joshu Little will leave no stone unturned to make sure that they win this game and get their hopes of reaching Super 12 going. "Getting to a World Cup was something I always wanted to do and we've had some decent preparation so dying to get stuck into it now,” Little said in an interview with Sky Cricket. Little then went on to detail about how he and the team plan to get themselves to Super 12. “First, it is Holland and we are dying to get one back on them after losing the one-day series in the summer. It will be a very good game. Hopefully, we can turn them over,” he said. Little was only 15 when Ireland staged a big upset in the 2015 ODI World Cup, defeating West Indies and he stayed up all night with then school friend and now national teammate Harry Tector to watch that win. He remembers that vividly and wants to take inspiration from that going into this game. "Me and Harry Tector, who is also in the squad, I remember him staying over at my house back in the day and we stayed up all night to watch Ireland beat the West Indies. "I remember that World Cup really well and all the lads I looked up to I am playing with now so that is special to be around them,” he said. The fast bowler then impressed upon the importance of the Sri Lanka game which could turn out to be massive if they are able to cause an upset. "That Sri Lanka game is absolutely massive. They are a world-class side and if we do win it would be very special,” said the 21-year-old. “We feel we can turn anyone over on our day,” he added before claiming to be super confident about a win against Namibia. “Then Namibia are another who will be a tough challenge but we back ourselves to win that.”

ICC World T20 2021 | Former champions Sri Lanka prepare for tough test against Namibia

Former World Champions Sri Lanka start their campaign against Associate nation Namibia in the most un-world champion like manner, on October 18 in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. It has been a steep fall for Sri Lanka since their 2014 campaign where they comprehensively defeated India in the finals. A squad that once housed the likes of Kumar Sangakarra, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lasith Malinga among others now does not have a single world beater in their squad. After a string of bad patches in the last couple of years, Sri Lanka now find themselves unable to start the tournament at the Super 12 stage with bigwigs like Indian and England. They now have to play the First Round or the qualifying round and defeat their competition in Namibia, Ireland and the Netherlands to qualify into the Super 12s. While a squad of Sri Lanka’s stature should not have a problem, but this is the World Cup and weirder things have happened. Namibia come into the tournament as one of the strongest associate teams and are well capable of punching above their weight. This is going to be their first appearance in an ICC World Cup after a wait of 18 years. Coming into the tournament, they have form by their side, and have won six out of their last six games. David Wiese, once an able member of the South African squad, now vies his trade with their African neighbours. He is well travelled and understands what is required off a stage like this. He was among wickets in this year’s Caribbean Premier League and could well be the deciding factor in this game. Match Details Sri Lanka vs Namibia Match Number - 4 Date & Time - 18 October, 7:30 PM IST (6 PM local) Venue - Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi Broadcast & Stream - Star Sports network, Disney+Hotstar Pitch Report If the Indian Premier League is anything to go by, Abu Dhabi can turn out to be one of the most inconsequential pitches in the tournament. It has generally favoured the spinners and has produced uneven bounce in the latter overs. Even though this is going to be an evening game, teams, if they win the toss, should opt to bat first. Players to watch out for Sri Lanka Wainindu Hasaranga Don’t be fooled by his off form in the Indian Premier League, Abu Dhabi might bring the best out of Hasaranga. Hasaranga’s bowling attributes might be of mighty use in Abu Dhabi. His claim to fame has been his ability to attack the stumps from a very low release point which allows him to hit the stumps more often than not. This attribute might be of high demand in a track like Abu Dhabi and Hasaranga could be the most important asset that SL have. Namibia Craig Williams The Namibia batting order revolves around the capability of Craig Williams and his ability to play the role of an anchor. He has scored four half-centuries in his last five T20 games and it would not be an understatement to say that he could make or break the fortunes of Namibia tomorrow.
