BAN vs PAK | 1st Test: Taijul Islam rips though Pakistan batting unit

Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam was on a roll against Pakistan in the first innings of the first Test in Chattogram after he scalped six wickets out of the first nine to push the visiting team on the back foot.

Pakistan had begun the proceedings well in reply to the home side’s 330 as openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique struck 146 for the first wicket before Shafique was trapped in front of the stumps by Taijul for 52.

Shafique’s departure saw wickets falling at regular intervals as the left-arm spinner just ripped through the Pakistan batting line up and they were soon reduced to 217/6 and were left tottering at 257/9.

None of the batters, barring Abid and Shafique, got into the groove and the Pakistan side witnessed a batting collapse.

Taijul’s dismissals included the wickets of Abid, Shafique, Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Hasan Ali and Nauman Ali during the course. Earlier, Bangladesh put up 330 in the first innings on the board, courtesy a hundred from Liton Das and a well-compiled 91 from Mushfiqur Rahim. For Pakistan, it was Hasan Ali who was the pick of the bowlers after he bagged a fifer.

Pakistan opener Abid Ali made headlines with a hundred against Bangladesh in the first innings of the first Test in Chattogram. The visitors had a solid start to the proceedings in reply to Bangladesh’s 330 as Abid and Abdullah Shafique stitched a first-wicket stand of 146 runs before the latter departed for 52. He was trapped in front of the stumps by Taijul Islam. Shafique’s dismissal certainly broke the shackles and Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals to get reduced to 217/6 including the priced scalp of Abid who was undone by Taijul for 133. At the time of writing, the spinner had already picked four wickets while Ebadot Hossain and Mehidy Hasan had a wicket each under their belt. Azhar Ali who came in at number three was dismissed for a golden duck while captain Babar Azam could only manage to score 10 during the course. Earlier, Bangladesh rode on a century from Liton Das and 91 from Mushfiqur Rahim to out 330 on the board. Pacer Hasan Ali returned with a five-wicket haul for Pakistan in the first innings. The two teams are battling it out in a two-match Test series. The second fixture will be held in Dhaka from December 4.

Tim Southee reaches 50 Test wickets against India, becomes second New Zealander to do so

New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee became the second fast bowler after legendary Richard Hadlee to take 50 Test wickets against India. He reached this milestone by picking up two wickets in India’s second innings in the ongoing first Test at Kanpur. Southee, who is known for his ability to swing the ball at any wicket, was at his lethal best in his very first spell, as he got Shreyas Iyer to nick the ball. Unfortunately, there was no first slip to take the catch. However, that prompted skipper Kane Williamson to get two slips and a short gully in the next over and the second slip which was placed way ahead of the mark and was wearing a helmet as protection took a great catch to dismiss Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal defend an in swinger with hard hands and as a result, the ball became airborne and Tom Latham at the second slip did the rest. In the same over, he trapped Jadeja with an angled delivery from around the wicket and got him out Leg Before Wicket in a similar fashion to the first innings. Southee now has 51 wickets to his name against India in only his 10th match. James Anderson of England has the most Test wickets against India. He has picked up 133 wickets in 34 matches.

IND vs NZ | 1st Test | Day 4: India in a spot of bother as New Zealand bowlers dominate in first session

New Zealand were in front in the first session of the penultimate of the first Test against India in Kanpur. Pacer Tim Southee pushed the home side on backfoot after scalping a couple of wickets in one over which included the dismissals of Mayank Agarwal and Ravindra Jadeja in a span of three deliveries. India began the proceedings on the fourth day at 14/1 with Mayank and Cheteshwar Pujara at the crease. The two batters had added 18 runs before Kyle Jamieson removed Pujara for 22. Agarwal was then joined by the stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane in the middle and tried to provide the resistance to the side but Rahane’s rough patch continued as he was trapped in front of the stumps by Ajaz Patel for 4 to reduce India to 41/3. Rahane’s scalp was followed by a couple of more wickets in the form of Agarwal and Jadeja’s dismissal in quick succession and the hosts were left tottering at 51/5. But it was Shreyas Iyer along with R Ashwin who made sure that there were no further fall of wickets in the first session as India were 84/5, leading New Zealand by 133 runs at Lunch.

Moeen Ali was in some terrific touch while playing for Northern Warriors against Team Abu Dhabi in the T10 League 2021. Chasing 146 in 10 overs, the Northern Warriors rode on an emphatic first wicket partnership of 146* between Kennar Lewis and Moeen to etch a win by 10 wickets. While Lewis struck 65* off 32, Ali stole away the show with an unbeaten 23-ball 77 which included nine sixes and three fours during the course. Earlier, in the day, Team Abu Dhabi rode on an aggressive knock from Ingram who notched up 61 in 25 deliveries, a knock comprising five maximums and as many fours to put 145/6 in 10 overs. Oshane Thomas was hit for 25 runs in two overs that he bowled for his side. The Warriors have only managed to win two out of the seven matches that they have played while Team Abu Dhabi have won five out of the seven matches that they have featured in the tournament so far. Team Abu Dhabi will now take on The Chennai Braves while Norther Warriors will be up against Deccan Gladiators in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
