Former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait has shown interest in getting the role of Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach after the place fell vacant with incumbent Ottis Gibson departing to Yorkshire, choosing not to renew his contract with Bangladesh Cricket Board.
"I'm interested, for sure. Absolutely," said Tait. "They (BCB) have got some time to think about who they are going to go with. It'll be a great job," he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Tait, who also worked as a bowling consultant with Afghanistan during the recently concluded T20 World Cup in 2021, is currently working with Chattogram Challengers as their pace bowling coach for the Bangladesh Premier League which will start from Friday, January 21 in Dhaka.
Talking about his interest in the role, Tait said, "In general, the stage Bangladesh cricket are in, there are so many good young players. They could become great players. Shoriful is an aggressive left-arm bowler. He is gonna be extremely important to this team. He has played enough cricket now to know what he is doing. So, I'm looking forward to working with him.”
"Bangladesh have got quite a decent depth of young players, even fast bowlers. The next 5-6-7 years are gonna be exciting for cricket here in Bangladesh," added the 38-year-old.
In his playing days, Tait, who represented Australia in 59 internationals across all three formats and picked up 95 wickets, was considered one of the fastest bowlers to have ever played the game.
