Asia Cup 2021 to be postponed, ICC made up its mind on World T20 in UAE: PCB Chief

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsaan Mani has said that team India qualifies for the finals of the World Test Championship, the Asia Cup tournament will be postponed.

The WTC Final is scheduled to take place at the Lord’s in June later this year almost at the same schedule as this year’s Asia Cup as per the ICC’s Future Tour Programme (FTP).

Notably, India have to at least avert a defeat from the touring England team in the last Test in Ahmedabad in order to qualify for the WTC Finals. They are leading the series by 2-1 and in case they face defeat in the next game, Australia will be through to the first final of the Test championship.

Earlier, Mani had warned the BCCI on the issue of availability of visas to Pakistan players for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and assurances about it. He reiterated that stand once again on Sunday and asked the global governing body ICC to address these concerns.

He also added that the ICC has already made up its mind on the venue of World T20 in case BCCI fail to meet the demands. He confirmed the United Arab Emirates as the preferred location for the global event.

South Africa legend and one of the finest fast bowlers to have ever graced the game, Dale Steyn was drawn into an avoidable controversy in the 2021 edition Pakistan Super League. Playing his first game for the Quetta Gladiators on February 26, Steyn was left fuming after finding out that commentator Simon Doull mentioned how Steyn was suffering a ‘mid-life crisis with the hair’. Steyn took to Twitter yesterday, 27 February evening and asked the community to identify the commentator. 10 mins after a fan dug out the clip of the incident, Steyn lashed out on the same stating that the commentator’s job was to talk about the game. “If your job is to talk about the game, then do that.” Steyn wrote on the microblogging site. He further went on to elaborate that it was never okay to use a public platform, viewed by millions of people to shame an individual for their weight, choices and ethnicity. While Steyn did not name or attack former New Zealand international himself, it was understood from the scheme of things. “...if you use that airtime to abuse anyone for their weight, sexual choices, ethnic backgrounds, lifestyle etc or even hairstyles, then im afraid I have no time for you as a human. You and anyone else like that to be fair.” Steyn further added. Playing his first game in the 2021 PSL, Steyn picked two wickets for 44 runs in a losing cause for the Quetta Gladiators. Defending a target of 199, the SA speedster conceded 21 runs in the penultimate over against Sherfane Rutherford and Wahab Riaz, who deposited him all across the park. Post his lambasting of Doull, he thanked people for the support and stated that he was hopeful for Quetta winning the remaining fixtures in the T20 league.

South Africa Women announce 17-member squad for India series

Cricket South Africa has named a 17-women squad for the upcoming tour of India. South Africa have named an unchanged squad from their last series against Pakistan apart from all-rounders Chloe Tryon and Dane van Niekerk, and Masabata Klaas who have been left out of the series against India due to injuries. According to the statement released by CSA, Masabata Klaas suffered an injury very late and was excluded just at the right moment at the time of the squad announcement. Notably, Proteas women coach Hilton Moreeng and all squad members have landed in India and are currently under quarantine. They will walk out of isolation and undergo outdoor training for a couple of days before taking the filed on March 07 at Ekna Stadium in Lucknow. Super 50 Cup 2021: Star-studded T&T too strong for Guyana on finals day

An all-round team performance from Trinidad and Tobago defeated Guyana in the finals of the domestic Super 50 Cup in West Indies. Chasing a mammoth target of 363 runs from 50 overs, Guyana were cut to size by Trinidad and Tobago pacers- Ravi Rampaul, Jayden Seales, and Aiden Phillip. Rampaul was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets from his 10 overs, while Seales and Phillip finished with three and two wickets respectively. Raymon Reifer was the lone shining prospect from Guyana and was dismissed just three shies of a much-deserving hundred, as others failed miserably with the bat. Batting first, Trinidad put up a valiant effort with the bat and posted a humongous 362 runs on the board. The Trinidad and Tobago had a superior batting line up on paper with the likes of Lendl Simmons, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Evin Lewis and Nicholas Pooran in the mix. Simmons was the hero with the bat as he brought up a daddy hundred on the big final day of the tournament and with the support from almost every other batsmen took the game away from Guyana even before they walked out to bat in the second innings.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar resumes training for India after 14-month layoff

India international and Sunrisers Hyderabad strike bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back in training for the Men in Blue. Resuming training in India colours after a long break of 14 months, Kumar was seen doing his cardio in visuals shared by the SRH Twitter page. Kumar was last seen playing in the Indian Premier League where he picked up a thigh muscle injury that sidelined him for the entire tournament. It was later revealed that the 30-year-old pacer would be out of action for six months and would be missing in action for the limited-overs fixtures ahead of IPL 2021. However, Kumar got back to fitness quicker than estimated and played eight limited-overs fixtures since January 2021 in the Indian domestic set up where he performed reasonably well with bat and ball. Better even for the Indian fans, Kumar has been called up for the 5-match T20 series against England that is scheduled to start from 12 March. The Uttar Pradesh captain has been bowling his full quota of overs in most games and has returned with four wickets.
