Former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince has been appointed as Bangladesh’s full-time batting coach, the BCB said. Prince will hold the post till World T20 2022 which will be held in Australia.
He was with the side during the Zimbabwe tour and had been the front runner to take up the post after Jon Lewis’ contract was not renewed.
The former Proteas cricketer wasn’t available for Bangladesh’s five-match T20I series at home against Australia that they won 4-1 but will oversee the team in their home fixtures against New Zealand.
Prince has resigned from his post of head coach of South Africa's Western Province and would be the third South African in Bangladesh’s coaching setup along with Russell Domingo and fielding coach Ryan Cook.
He has coached Cape Cobras and has worked as a batting consultant for South Africa A.
"I'd like to thank the president and the board of directors of Western Cape Cricket who have entrusted me with the development of some of the country's most talented young players over the last four years," Prince said in a statement.
"What I will treasure most about my stint as head coach of the Cape Cobras/Cape Town Blitz is, along with my coaching staff, assisting six young players to make their international debut for the Proteas,” he added.
The Blackcaps will be up against Bangladesh for a five-match series that begins on September 1.
