APL 2022 | UTL vs BZW | Rain plays killjoy as match gets abandoned

Due to a rainy afternoon on July 8, the fifth match of the Andhra Premier League (APL) 2022 between Uttarandhra Lions (UTL) and Bezawada Tigers (BZW) had to be abandoned.

As only seven overs could be bowled before it started pelting in Visakhapatnam, the two teams will now share the points.

Starting with the toss, the coin flipped in Uttarandhra Lions' favour, who opted to field first. With dark clouds hovering all over the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, fast-bowler K Ajay Kumar took the advantage of the windy conditions as he dismissed Bezawada Tigers' openers, K Maheep Kumar and Bodapati Sumanth.

Soon, Mohammad Rafi sent Pyla Avinash packing as three early wickets mounted humongous pressure on the Tigers, who then lay at 17/3 after 4.3 overs. One might call it a lucky escape for them as rain poured down immediately after the completion of the seventh over.

After this, no play was possible as the umpires finally called it a day. In the seven overs of action that happened, UTL took three wickets while BZW scored 23 runs, with J Rami Reddy and Ricky Bhui unbeaten at the crease.

Brief scores:

Bezawada Tigers - 23/3 (7)

K Maheep Kumar 8(13)

K Ajay Kumar 2-5 (3), Mohammad Rafi 1-5 (2)

Match was abandoned due to rain.
