Ajay Jadeja's attempted funny comment goes wrong, draws ire of fans

Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja, currently working as a commentator on the ongoing India vs Australia T20I series, put his foot in the mouth during the final game of the series on Tuesday. In an attempt to be humourous, he ended up making a comment about Virat Kohli that has drawn criticism from all around.

The incident occured during Australia's innings in the match. When Virat dropped a catch offered by Matthew Wade, off the bowling of Washington Sundar, Jadeja, on air at the moment, remarked: "I am not worried about the Indian team but the baby arriving."

The comment had missed the mark and soon, the Twitterati were up in arms over it. Some people called the remark sexist while some deemed it distasteful.

The match eventually ended in Australia's favour with the home side getting winning by 12 runs.

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir praised all-rounder Hardik Pandya saying that he is now entering into the category of the great Indian finishers like former captain MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. Comparing the 27-year-old Pandya to legendary Indian finishers Gambhir, now a Parliamentarian said, “There are very few players like Hardik Pandya, there was Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni earlier and there is Glenn Maxwell now, they are capable of chasing any total or any target.” Even if you need 20-25 runs in the last over, these players make you believe that they can score it,” added the 39-year-old. In the third game too, Pandya was just getting into the groove before getting out of 20 on 13 balls.

The Indian team seemed to be running out of luck in the third and final ODI as Australian opener Matthew Wade, after getting the ‘benefit of doubt’ LBW decision in his favour early on, got another decision in his favour as Team India skipper Virat Kohli was caught napping while making teh DRS call. The Indian skipper made the call when the 15 seconds timer had run out and even after being plumb, the thyroid umpire called it not out, citing that the Indian team was late in calling the review. However, the umpire came to this conclusion only after batsman Wade made a protest to the on-field umpires that the Indian team took the review only after the replay had been played on the big screen in the ground. In another instance, Glenn Maxwell was caught off Yuzvendra Chahal on teh score of 19. However, he was given life as the ball turned out to be a No ball, which was picked by the third umpire after the ball had been bowled. Maxwell was given yet another life after being dropped by Deepak Chahar on the boundary lines. As it turned out, the decisions did turn out to be costly for India, but not much as both were out eventually. While Wade got out leg before the wicket off Shardul Thakur, Maxwell was cleaned up by a Natarajan yorker off the first ball of the last over. While Wade scored 80, Maxwell was out off 54 of 36 balls. In total, Australia scored 186 runs in their 20 overs, with just 11 coming from the last over.

Former India wicketkeeper KiranMore believes that India is missing former captain and wicket-keeper MS Dhoni, not in the finishing front but as a guiding light to the Indian spinners from behind the wickets. ‘‘During Dhoni’s time, he was constantly giving advice to bowlers on what length or line to bowl - albeit mostly in Hindi. New BBL rule may increase the potential of spot-fixing, worries CA

The new BBL rules are in the contention of being a potential threat for spot-fixing in the league worries Cricket Australia. In a recent report by The Age, CA has asked commentators to take caution while having chat with on-field players. The rule that is in the line of the bookies according to CA is the Bash Boost, which is a point given to the chasing or the defending team in the middle of the second innings. If the chasing side are above the equivalent 10-over score of their opposition, they get the point, if they are below it, the defending team gets the point. According to CA, they would advise the commentators not to talk to the players, especially batters in the 10th over or the overs leading up to it, so as to maintain the integrity of the game. Malcolm Speed, formerly associated with teh International Cricket Council, however, is of the opinion that the rule change wouldn’t really cause any problem, as the bookies wouldn’t really be interested in it. "I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If you want to have an exotic field, you can choose if it's the eighth over, the 10th over, the 12th over ... and if you have got the fix in, that's an opportunity,” The Age quoted him as saying. “But I don't think putting the emphasis on the 10th over is going to have the bookies doing handstands and saying: 'That's our opportunity, that's the one we have been waiting for'. I don't think it's any different to what's been there previously," he added. The CA has added three new rules such as Power Surge', 'X-factor Player' and 'Bash Boost' to make the league more engaging.
