Former Indian paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth has been appointed as a team mentor for the Bangla Tigers' franchise in the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 League.  Sreesanth is joined by former Bangladesh all-rounder Aftab Ahmed, who has been named as head coach.

The Bangla Tigers will be captained by Bangladesh's Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan, who takes over from South African Faf du Plessis.

Sreesanth, who announced his retirement from domestic cricket earlier in March, will for the first time take on the role of mentor. The 39-year-old was part of India's T20 and 50-overs World Cup winning side in 2007 and 2011.

Former Rajasthan Royals' player will take the field in the Legends League Cricket (LLC) one-off exhibition match between India Maharajas and World XI, led by Sourav Ganguly and Eoin Morgan, respectively.

Talking about his stint, Sreesanth said:

“With my captain [Shakib] and the team management, I am very confident we have experienced people and a great team. Last year we were third in the league. This year, Inshallah, we will be champions. We have belief, and I have the faith we will do well.” - Sreesanth was quoted by the National News.

Bangla Tigers team updates

The Tigers have roped in some of the best T20 players in the lineup, starting with West Indies' Evin Lewis, New Zealand's southpaw Colin Munro and Pakistan's left-arm paceman Mohammad Amir.

Sri Lanka's new sensation Matheesha Pathirana will be playing for the Tigers after an impressive Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2022.

The tournament gets underway on November 23rd and will go until December 4th.
