  • A Sri Lankan Cricket Club Clash Has Produced A Bizarre Feat Of A Low Scoring Game

A Sri Lankan Cricket Club clash has produced a bizarre feat of a low-scoring game

When we talk about the sport's shortest format, it is evident that we could witness some wholesome entertainment, especially with the bat. However, we see some wickets getting plucked from both the squads and the swashbuckling innings from one's bat act as a highlight.

But, a recent clash between two Sri Lankan clubs could be something different and bizarre to hear from a T20 format point of view.

In Sri Lanka's Major Club T20 tournament, a cricket match between Kalutara Town Clun (KTC) & Galle Cricket Club (GCC) has produced a bizarre record for the lowest total for a tied encounter in a T20 or a format that is more than a ten over.

As this clash was rain-hit, it got reduced to a six-overs a side match. But, surprisingly, both the clubs, KTC & GCC, have ended up with an identical total of 30 for nine wickets in their six-overs campaign.

As the above numbers suggest, this match has produced the lowest average in a T20 format, at just a mere 33.33. Also, in the total 12 overs game, only two overs went wicketless. Out of the total 18 wickets scalped, 15 were by the left-arm spinners, thanks to the Sri Lankan tracks, which are spin-friendly. The game also included four run-outs and two stumpings from each side.

GCC's batter, Kawsitha Kodithuwakku, made just 12 runs, which happens to be the only double-digit score from both the batting arsenals. While Inshaka Siriwardena from KTC registered his best bowling figures, scalping five wickets off five runs in just two overs, which comprises a four-wicket over from the left-arm orthodox bowler.

Also, the tournament's semi-final qualification for both teams seems vague as they aren't in a strong position in their groups' points table.

As per the tournament's rules and conditions, a super-over would happen between the clubs from the knockout rounds onwards and as a result, the game ended in a tie.

Thirty-two matches have been rescheduled due to heavy showers, including the clash between KTC & GCC. Mostly the Sri Lankan domestic games are abandoned due to the rain. But the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) felt that rescheduling these games would be sensible. Thanks to the approaching Lanka Premier League (LPL), these matches on domestic circuits act as a gateway for players to earn a contract in the tournament.
