The 2023 World Cup is moving along quickly. On October 12, South Africa and Australia are set to clash at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. It promises to be another thrilling contest and is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM IST/ This will be the second match for both teams in the prestigious event.

South Africa began the mega-event with a bang by stockpiling 428 runs on the board. The gigantic total was always going to be an Everest to climb and the Lankan were curtailed short of experts with hiking shoes. Eventually, the Temba Bavuma-led unit won by 102 runs.

Australia, on the other hand, lost to the hosts India despite a perfect start to defence. Dew did play a part, and the Aussies were unable to hold off the calibre of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. The Indian duo laid the foundation for the chase with a 165-run fourth wicket stand and the Aussies were pushed back to the wall.

In the run-up to the World Cup, both teams engaged in an exciting bilateral series, with South Africa winning the ODI series 3-2. In light of this fascinating match, let's quickly look at Australia's predicted starting line-up against South Africa.

Openers: Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock

This right and left-hand combination of South Africa has been a go-to thing in this format for the past couple of years. Quinton de Kock is playing his final 50-overs World Cup and riding his last dance. The wicketkeeper-batter is coming fresh off a dazzling century against Sri Lanka.

De Kock is a new ball attacker and will be a part of the top order along with skipper Temba Bavuma. The right-hander was in brilliant form in this format in the lead up to the World Cup. Bavuma garnered 225 runs from his last five innings that includes a brilliant century against Australia during the bilateral series.

Middle Order: Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller

South Africa boasts of a terrific batting order where Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller form the core along with Aiden Markram.

Rassie is a beast when it comes to the Fifty-over World Cup. He averaged 63.00 with the bat ahead of this particular World Cup and followed it by a scintillating ton in the tournament opener against Sri Lanka.

Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller are renowned for being a cause of storm in venues across the globe. The former has been notching up hundreds for fun. He scored a century in IPL 2023, in MLC, and also very recently in the national colours. He's a murderer of spin and will definitely be a part of this playing XI along with 'Killer Miller'.

All-rounders: Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj

Aiden Markram has piled up two quick centuries in the past couple of months. The very recent one came against Sri Lanka and broke the record of fastest World Cup century, overhauling Kevin O'Brien's record against England. He can also be a very handy operator with the ball in hand in the conditions of Lucknow.

Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj are two other all-rounders who form the core of the all-rounders group for the Proteas. The former has been a revelation with both bat and ball in hand. Quickfire knocks lower down the order is something that is seen quite often in recent times from Jansen. Also, he offers the left-armer's angle and extracts nibble with the new ball. In addition, Maharaj will be a key asset with the ball in hand as his finger spin is one of the primary entities that regulates the middle overs.

Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi

In the absence of speedster, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi will be be leading the pace attack of South Africa. They have done the job for the nation in the past and shall continue to do so. However, there's a good chance that the South African team management opts for an extra spinner in this venue. In that case, Gerald Coetzee could make way for Tabraiz Shamsi who is an attacking option and bowls left-arm wrist spin.
