India will take on England in the third and final ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 12. Having already sealed the series 2-0, India will be aiming for a clean sweep while England will fight to avoid a whitewash.

India

India have been unstoppable in this series, excelling with both bat and ball. The second ODI in Cuttack was another showcase of their all-round strength. After being asked to bowl first, India restricted England to 304, thanks to a clinical bowling effort led by Ravindra Jadeja, who picked up 3/35 in four overs. Mohammed Shami, Harshit Rana, Hardik Pandya, and Varun Chakravarthy supported him well, each grabbing a wicket to keep the visitors in check.

In response, India’s chase was all about their skipper, Rohit Sharma. Making a sensational return to form, Rohit smashed his 32nd ODI hundred. Shubman Gill complemented his captain with a composed half-century, forming a solid opening stand. Though India lost a couple of wickets in quick succession, Shreyas Iyer (44) and Axar Patel (41*) ensured there were no hiccups, guiding the team home comfortably in 44.3 overs.

England

While England have shown glimpses of their best, they have struggled to close out games. In the second ODI, they put up a competitive 304 after deciding to bat first. Ben Duckett and Phil Salt gave them a strong start, and Joe Root anchored the innings with a fluent 69. Liam Livingstone provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 41.

With the ball, Jamie Overton was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets, while Gus Atkinson, Adil Rashid, and Livingstone chipped in with one each. However, their efforts weren’t enough to stop India from chasing the target with ease. England will need to step up with a more collective effort to salvage some pride in the final game.

How Will Surface The Narendra Modi Stadium Pitch Behave?

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium can be tricky, offering contrasting conditions in both innings. In the afternoon, fast bowlers won’t get much movement, forcing them to rely on cutters and slower deliveries. Spinners, on the other hand, could enjoy the dry and sluggish surface during the day.

Under the lights, batting becomes more comfortable as the ball comes onto the bat nicely. Seamers might find some assistance early on, but nothing too challenging for the batters. History favors teams chasing here, with four of the last five ODIs at this venue being won by the chasing side. Winning the toss and opting to bowl first seems the way to go.
