The 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will feature the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans in a mouth-watering contest at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The battle will have consequences in the points table as both the sides are fighting it out for a place in the top-2 of the points table.

The Hardik Pandya led MI and Shubman Gill's GT have been on a roll in the league and alongside RCB and PBKS, have a great chance to secure a top-2 spot in the table. However, apart from the GT and MI fans, there is a third party which will have a closer look at this contest - the RCB team.

The table toppers are flying-high but the MI-GT game will have consequences which RCB also has to bear. Hence, who's victory tonight will benefit the Royal Challengers in the long run.

As the table suggests, RCB is at the top of the table while MI is at third and GT occupy the 4th spot.

Scenario 1: If MI wins the match

If Hardik Pandya's MI wins the match tonight, they will reach at 16 points, but will surpass RCB to become the new number 1. The reason - their superior net run-rate. However, MI's win will technically be a boon for RCB, since it'll mean GT will have less chance of finishing in top-2 and RCB will then only fight it out with MI and PBKS for a top-2 place.

GT, even if they lose will still be in a top-2 race, but the road will get tougher since the other three sides at the top will have more points after 11 games.

Scenario 2: If GT wins the match

If GT triumph over MI, then they, too, will have 16 points in the table and if they win by a big margin, the Shubman Gill led side might even surpass RCB to become the table topper. This will put pressure on RCB since they now have to deal with three teams for a top spot, instead of just two.

GT will have 16 points, RCB with 16, PBKS with 15 and MI with a superior net run-rate with 14. The race to the top position will then be wide opened.

Hence, a win for MI will most likely benefit RCB since a top-2 finish will be much easier for them.
