Over the past few weeks, several high-profile former international players have been either removed or appointed as coaches for various franchises in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) for the upcoming editions.

Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower shifted base from Lucknow Super Giants to Royal Challengers Bangalore, as former Australian opener Justin Langer filled the incumbent position.

Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori replaced former West Indies legend Brian Lara at Sunrisers Hyderabad after just one season.

In cricket, the role of a coach is highly debated, with most of the execution of plans relying on the captain, who marshals his troops on the field, unlike in football, where the manager is in firm control of the tactics during play.

One of the most beloved voices in cricket, Harsha Bhogle has opined on the differences between English Premier League (EPL) managers and cricket coaches.

As posted on the social platform 'X', Bhogle, explained that, unlike football, quantifying the contributions of a coach in cricket is quite difficult.

Here's what Bhogle opined

"IPL coaches coming and going like Premiership football managers. But unlike in football, where the manager is supreme, in cricket a franchise team coach has a rather more limited role and, given that, his contribution is difficult to quantify."

In the last decade, cricket teams have opted for specialist coaches for batting, bowling, and fielding, diminishing the role of a head coach, who now mostly dons the caretaker's hat given the distribution of disciplines.
