In a significant development, explosive Kerala batter Vishnu Vinod has been ruled out of the IPL 2024 due to a forearm injury. Mumbai Indians have roped in Saurashtra's keeper-batter Harvik Desai as his replacement. 

The news was confirmed by IPL’s official handle on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Although Vinod didn’t feature in a single game for MI, his absence definitely creates a void in their squad. 

Despite being incredibly talented, Vinod could manage only 37 runs in three outings in the previous IPL season. 

He started the tournament on a high note, scoring a quick-fire 20-ball 30 against Gujarat Titans. However, his failures against LSG and GT eventually led to his exclusion from the squad. 

Meanwhile, Harvik Desai was Saurashtra’s most successful batter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24, amassing 336 runs in seven innings at an average of 67.20 and a blistering strike rate of 175. 

However, as MI have been going with Ishan Kishan as their keeper, Desai is unlikely to get into the final XI instantly after joining the setup. 

Led by Hardik Pandya, the five-time champions will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their fifth group-stage match this evening.
