On Tuesday, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) confirmed Wanindu Hasaranga won't be part of the IPL 2024 due to injury.

The Orange Army has also named the replacement for the ace Sri Lankan spinner whom they bought cheaply for INR 1.5 crore at the most recent auction, with Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, a 22-year-old Sri Lankan leg-spinner, receiving his maiden IPL contract.

"Wanindu Hasaranga will be unavailable for the season due to injury. We would like to wish him a speedy recovery. Sri Lankan spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth has joined the squad as his replacement for the rest of #IPL2024. Welcome, Viyaskanth!" - SRH said in a statement.

Viyaskanth made his international debut in October last year in Hangzhou against Afghanistan. However, it still remains his only game in his international career.

Viyaskanth, a leg-break bowler, has played franchise cricket in three competitions: the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), International League T20 (IL T20), and Lanka Premier League (LPL). In BPL, he plays for Chattogram Challengers, while in IL T20 and LPL, the 22-year-old represents MI Emirates and Jaffna Kings.

Viyaskanth’s T20 numbers are quite impressive, with 42 wickets in 33 matches at an average of 18.78 and 6.76. Additionally, his decent 16.6 strike rate suggests that he has been a legitimate wicket-taker.
