Shubman Gill has had a stellar start to his ODI career. In 15 matches so far, Gill has amassed 687 runs, at an average of 57.25, with one century and four half-century to his name.

But despite scoring truckloads of runs, the 23-year-old was not selected for the Bangladesh ODI series, with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan preferred at the top spot.

Former India opener, Wasim Jaffer reckons that Gill may have fallen down in the pecking order for the top spot after Ishan Kishan's sensational double ton in the last ODI against Bangladesh. The southpaw slammed 131-ball 210 and helped India win the game by 227 runs.

Jaffer's take on Gill

"Ishan Kishan obviously puts himself ahead of Shubman gill now. I feel a little bit sad for Gill, he was the front-runner before this innings. He was the third opener in line after Rohit and Dhawan, and now he will be in the fourth spot. 

Sometimes you feel why Gill is not in the squad, there is nothing wrong that he did," Jaffer opined.

In the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, Gill scored 108 runs, despite both the second and third ODI being washed out.

Jaffer also believes that the aggressive approach of the new generation is refreshing to see and they go after the bowling irrespective of the format.
