Vijay Hazare Trophy Pre Quarter-finals round-up

The Pre Quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 got underway at three different venues in Ahmedabad. Here's a brief match report on the action getting transpired in these matches. 


Kerala vs Jammu & Kashmir

The decision to bowl first went in favour of J&K as they crushed the Kerala top order. Experienced players like Sachin Baby (3) and Vishnu Vinod (12) couldn't contribute much. I was a terrific knock from Vinoop Manoharan (62) and support from Sijomon Joseph (32), which paved way for them to post 174 on the board. Auqib Nabi was pick of the bowlers for J&K with four wickets. 

In reply, Shubham Khajuria (76) and Qamran Iqbal (51) were flawless to stitch a 113-run opening stand, which already set the platform. In the end, Henan Nazir (12) and Fazil Rashid (7) remained unbeaten as J&K sealed the chase with more than 12 overs to spare. This will be their first-ever quarter-final appearance in Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Karnataka vs Jharkhand

Batting first, Jharkhand had a horrendous start to their innings as Arnav Sinha and Utkarsh Singh went for a duck. Shahbaz Nadeem (22) and skipper Virat Singh (13) stabilized the innings. 

In the middle, Kumar Kushagra (74) and Anukul Roy (57) were impressive to put up a fine show and help Jharkhand post a respectable total of 187. Vidhwath Kaverappa, Ronit More and M Venkatesh scalped three wickets apiece for Karnataka. 

In reply, Ravikumar Samarth (53) held his end steady, while Mayank Agarwal dismissed for 12. The wickets of Manish Pandey (18) and Shreyas Gopal (12) put them in a spot of bother, but Nikin Jose's sublime knock helped Karnataka to complete the chase under 41 overs.

Uttar Pradesh vs Mumbai

Invited to bat first, Mumbai lost their openers Prithvi Shaw (10) and Divyaansh Saxena (0) early. Then, Armaan Jaffer (32) and captain Ajinkya Rahane (26) came to rescue the team.

In the middle-order, Hardik Tamore and Shams Mulani scored half-centuries each as Mumbai managed to post 220 on the board. Shivam Mavi was the best bowler for UP with four wickets, followed by Kartik Tyagi and Shiva Singh with two scalps. 

UP openers Madhav Kaushik (46) and Aryan Juyal (82) provided their side a prolific start, and added 119 runs for the first wicket. Afterwards, Priyam Garg (39) and skipper Karan Sharma (42) remained unbeaten to pave for UP to reach the next stage.
