Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan on Saturday (October 1) admitted that the board has failed to observe and recognize the efforts of the women's cricketers in Bangladesh.

Hasan inaugurated the Women’s Asia Cup at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. He inaugurated the seven-team tournament by releasing balloons before the game between hosts Bangladesh and Thailand. After all the formalities, he watched the match which saw the Bangladesh women's team claiming an emphatic nine-wicket win. Thailand women were first bowled out for just 82 in the first innings. Without much fuss, Bangladesh women's team achieved the target in just the 12th over of the chase.

"The girls have been playing well for quite some time now, but we are not looking at them. That is our failure. They were the champions in the World Cup Qualifiers and qualified for World Cups in the past. They also became champions in the Asia Cup, so they have been playing well consistently,"

After witnessing the Bangladesh women's team winning the game of the competition, Nazmul shared his thoughts on the game and said that he felt good after the hosts claimed their first win.

"I feel really great. If we look at the rankings, Bangladesh are maybe number nine. Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, and Zimbabwe are the teams behind us, but those teams are of a pretty similar standard. Since they play World Cup, they are strong opponents.

That is why I was a bit worried before the game today (Saturday). It was a tough game but the way they played and showed confidence felt good," he added.

The defending Asia Cup champions began their campaign on the right note as they defeated Thailand in the tournament opener at Sylhet and they will look to continue the winning momentum in order to reclaim their title.
