Harshal Patel likely to be fit for home series against Australia
The 31-year-old speedster is currently at the NCA where he will be required to undergo a fitness test for selection. According to a report by the InsideSport, a source close to the selection committee has said that Patel’s fitness test will be carried out next week to monitor his progress.
The source also did not rule out the likelihood of the pacer making his comeback into the Indian team for this month’s home series against Australia.
In Patel’s absence, the current Indian pace attack is being helmed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the Asia Cup. Notably, the Indian squad in UAE also does not feature seasoned campaigners Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
The team management is using this opportunity to groom young speedsters at the international stage, by giving Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan their chances in the playing XI.
The result, however, did not benefit Team India, at least in their latest Asia Cup match. An experienced Kumar conceded 40 runs from his four overs, as Pakistan defeated the ‘Men in Blue’ with a ball to spare in Dubai.
