Scott Styris speaks on Boult's release from NZ Central Contract

Kiwi pacer Trent Boult was recently released by New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to allow him to stay and spend extended time with his family. Although he can still be a part of New Zealand's future tours but won't be given preference as players in the central contract will be considered.

This decision was considered by everyone to be taken in lieu of him focusing more on T20 leagues and, of course, his family. But now, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris opened up on what could have really prompted him to go that route.

Styris says that it could be a result of the heavy workload, which might have caused him to think about his future commitments. However, according to him, the blame could be put upon the improper schedule set in place by various cricket boards without much thought.

What Styris has to say

"Firstly, it has taken New Zealand by complete surprise, certainly the cricket viewing public. Nobody really thought that Trent Boult is going to finish up this quickly and this soon,

"It is also a little unfair to say he is chasing money as such. It's time now that he prioritises the format that he enjoys, a little bit like Ben Stokes. But it is also a bigger message that the schedule is broken,

"I don't think cricket can afford to lose the likes of Stokes and Trent Boult, two of the best cricketers in the world right now, away from the international game."

More players could follow the path

Don't be surprised if more players in the coming years are going the Trent Boult and Ben Stokes' way of either entirely or partially moving away from the international arena. The only thing that boards could do is offer better salaries along with the flexibility of choosing and picking the series for players.
