Reliance Industries, owners of five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians, have announced the names of two of their new franchises.

Upon revealing the names of the franchises, Reliance Industries Director Mrs. Nita M. Ambani said:

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome ‘MI Emirates’ & ‘MI Cape Town’, the newest additions to our #Onefamily. For us, MI goes beyond cricket. It embodies the ability to dream, be fearless and foster a positive attitude in life. I am sure that both MI Emirates and MI Cape Town will embrace the same ethos and take MI’s global cricket legacy to even greater heights!”.

The International League T20 is a UAE-based tournament and its inaugural edition is slated to be played in January 2023 among six teams. Interestingly, Reliance Industries are not the only IPL-based owners to acquire a franchise for UAE’s T20 event.

Owners of Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals have also acquired a franchise each for the tournament.

Similarly, the T20 League initiative launched by Cricket South Africa has involvement of as many as six IPL franchise owners. Apart from Mumbai Indians, owners of Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals all own a franchise each.
