Shikhar Dhawan has expressed his fondness towards the ODI cricket, by terming it as an art and still having a charm.

In the recent few years, the 50-overs format has been touted to be a rather boring affair, with the rising popularity of the T20 leagues. On the other hand, the Test format has brought back the interest of the audience with the introduction of the World Test Championship (WTC).

The likes of Wasim Akram and Ravichandran Ashwin have said that the format has lost its relevance. Last month, the all-rounder Ben Stokes bid farewell to the ODIs as well.

However, Dhawan, who features solely in this format for the Blues thinks the current 50-over format has its ebbs and flows.

“I really enjoy playing ODI cricket. It’s an art and still has charm. I love playing it. Like Test and T20 have their values, ODI cricket is also exciting. I really like it,” Dhawan told The Indian Express.

Dhawan clueless about his non-selection into the T20I squad

The 35-year-old has often been sidelined in the T20I format despite his consistent run-tally in the Indian Premier League. Dhawan is clueless as to why he is not getting enough opportunities in the shortest format.

However, the opening batter is focused on doing well in each appearance for the Indian team.

"Be it IPL, domestic cricket, or ODI, I just want to do well, and that is the only thing under my control.”

Dhawan will lead the Men in Blue for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe to be played from 18 to 22 August. Under his captaincy, India recently secured a clean sweep in the 50-over series against West Indies.
