Abhishek Sharma blasted a 16-ball half-century against Mumbai Indians to break Travis Head’s record in match number eight of the IPL 2024 season.

The dashing left-hander launched two boundaries and six sixes all across the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad at the time of completing his 50* in just the tenth over of the Mumbai Indians innings. Through the course of his whirlwind knock, Abhishek Sharma registered the fastest-ever half-century for SRH in IPL history.

Abhishek Sharma creates SRH history after Travis Head

After Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya opted to field first, SRH’s top-order batters made the most out of batting friendly home conditions in Hyderabad by racing to 81-1 in the first six overs, and to 148-1 at the halfway stage of the innings.

Australian-based firebrand opener Travis Head flogged around a dreary Mumbai Indians attack across all corners to belt an 18-ball half-century. While Head made his way back to the pavilion with a 24-ball 62 to his name, the star batter broke David Warner’s record (20 balls) of listing the fastest-ever half-century by an SRH player in history.

As it turned out, Travis Head’s newfound SRH record lasted a whole 15 minutes as it was usurped by none other than his teammate and number three batsman Abhishek Sharma about four overs later in the innings.
