No Jos Buttler For RR In Knockouts As ECB Confirms Players' Unavailability For IPL Playoffs

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a strong 15-player preliminary squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024. 

The squad, set to be led by 2022 T20 World Cup-winning skipper Jos Buttler, will also be facing Pakistan in a four-match T20I series at home a week prior to the tournament.

While several of England's T20 World Cup 2024-bound players are currently in India for the IPL 2024 season, the ECB has also confirmed that the selected players will have to return to England prior to the playoffs.


England’s IPL 2024 players to skip playoffs for PAK series

On April 30, the ECB's selection committee announced a composed squad for England's upcoming home T20I series against Pakistan and the subsequent T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA. 

Notably, the series against Pakistan coincides with the playoffs stage of the ongoing IPL 2024 season.

England's T20 World Cup-bound players, such as Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow, are currently in India plying their trades for their respective IPL 2024 franchises.

With the series against Pakistan set to commence from May 22 onwards at Leeds, the ECB has instructed its players to return to England before the IPL 2024 playoffs. 

ECB's aforementioned stance will likely affect franchises like Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) the most owing to their English presence.

With the inclusion of players like Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, and stand-in skipper Sam Curran, Punjab Kings is another team that relies on its heavy English contingent.

Regardless, England will be commencing their T20 World Cup title defence at the forthcoming 2024 edition of the tournament on June 4 with a Group B match against Scotland.
