Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Harshit Rana was handed a penalty for a pair of code of conduct breaches during his team's opening game of the IPL 2024 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Kolkata on Saturday (March 23).

Rana KKR's pace recruit, has been fined 60% of his match fee for breaching the IPL's established code for all players and match officials. The seamer was penalised for his pair of a instigative send-offs against SRH batters Mayank Agarwal and Heinrich Klaasen in KKR's close-fought victory.

Even as the 22-year-old quick from Delhi emerged as a match-winner for the Kolkata side with his great defence of 13 runs required in the final over, Rana had to pay a significant portion of his match fees on being penalised for aggressive and in-your-face celebrations against two Sunrisers right-handers.

Harshit Rana Fined For Angry Send-Offs

"Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana has been fined a total of 60 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23," stated a release by IPL governing council.

"Rana committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He was fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fees for the two respective offences. Rana admitted to the two offences and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding."

Rana was KKR's stand-out performer with the ball during the Sunrisers' run-chase with his fantastic figures of 3/33 off his 4 overs, including an exceptional 20th over where the uncapped talent helped the two-time champions come out unscathed by just 4 runs

In a high-scoring bout, however, it was premier KKR allrounder and big-hitting giant Andre Russell, who earned the 'Player of the Match' trophy for his tremendous knock of 64 not out off 25 deliveries that propelled Kolkata to an imposing 208/7.
