As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 progresses, the race for the playoffs is intensifying.

With all teams having played at least nine matches except Kolkata Knight Riders (8), the dynamics of the league table are more competitive than ever.

Rajasthan Royals lead the IPL 2024 points table comfortably at the top, but below them, the battle is fierce among the remaining teams, all aiming for a spot in the top four.

Here's an in-depth look at each team's situation and what they need to do to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.

1. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Rajasthan Royals are dominating this season with 16 points from nine games, losing only once. They are nearly assured a playoff spot, needing just one more win to confirm their qualification.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Kolkata Knight Riders are currently among the five teams tied on 10 points but have played fewer games, giving them an advantage. With eight matches played, they have more opportunities to increase their points tally.

Two more wins could see them reaching 14 points, a safe zone likely to ensure a playoff spot but three wins from the remaining six games will seal them a place in the top four.

3. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK is in a strong position thanks to a significant 78-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad that improved their net run rate. With 10 points from nine games, consistency in their remaining matches could easily secure them a playoff position.

If they manage to win three of the remaining five matches, the Men in Yellow’s spot in the playoffs will be all but secured.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

After a strong start, SRH's momentum has been halted by two significant losses vs CSK and RCB. These defeats have put them in a dismal position as they tackle the middle of the points table.

With a total of 10 points, their path to the playoffs is uncertain, and they will also need to win three of the five matches to nearly confirm a playoff spot.

5. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

LSG also stands at 10 points after nine matches but with a slightly lower net run rate than SRH. Their position is delicate, and the performance in the upcoming five matches will be critical for their playoff hopes.

With three victories needed to almost seal the place in the top four, their journey will certainly not be easy as they have some difficult games lined up against the likes of Mumbai Indians (two games), KKR, SRH, and Delhi Capitals.

6. Delhi Capitals (DC)

With 10 points from 10 games, DC has the most challenging path to the playoffs. They need to win all their remaining matches to confirm their spot, three of which are against teams above them in the standings. Their fate is still in their hands, but the margin for error is non-existent.

7. Gujarat Titans (GT)

GT is in a tough spot with only six points from 10 matches and the worst net run rate in the league. They need to win all their remaining games and rely on other results to go their way, which makes their playoff chances quite bleak.

8. Punjab Kings (PBKS)

With the same points as GT but slightly better in terms of net run rate, PBKS's situation is slightly better but still dire. They too need to win their remaining matches and hope for favourable outcomes from other games.

9. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai Indians, like PBKS and GT, is struggling at the bottom with only six points. Their path to the playoffs is filled with must-win games, and they need other results to help them advance.

10. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

RCB, despite being last, has shown some signs of resurgence with two consecutive wins. If they continue this streak and win all their remaining games, they can reach a maximum of 14 points, potentially putting them in playoff contention.

However, they also need other results to favour them, which is unlikely but not impossible, as this IPL season has already shown some surprising outcomes.
