In a ground-breaking development, the Indian team management is considering naming Rishabh Pant their vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2024. 

As reported by Cricbuzz, Pant is the front-runner to become Rohit Sharma's deputy in the tournament alongside experienced all-rounder Hardik Pandya. 

While Pant has led a relatively inexperienced Delhi Capitals team to five fighting wins, Pandya has completely failed to make an impact in the tournament. Besides being unimpressive with both bat and ball, Pandya has led MI to six crushing defeats in nine outings. 

Therefore, considering the Baroda all-rounder's inconsistency and injury-prone body, the Men in Blue might name Pant as their vice-captain for the marquee event. 

Statistically, Pant has been DC's Mr consistent with the bat in the IPL 2024, amassing 371 runs at a mind-boggling average of 46.38 and a strike rate of 160.61. On the contrary, Pandya has blown hot and cold, scoring 197 runs and scalping only four wickets in nine matches. 

The report also suggests that India might exclude Yuzvendra Chahal from the squad, picking either of Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel to spearhead the spin bowling department alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. 

Experienced seamer Sandeep Sharma might also be in the mix alongside Avesh Khan, who has been impressive in the tournament.
