Bangladesh U19 cricketer Iftekhar Hossain has tested positive for Covid-19 during the mass testing program at the Shere Bangla National Stadium’s academy building on Monday. All 15 players including Hossain were tested for the lethal virus ahead of their training camp in BKSP, which will commence on August 23. The camp is likely to go on for a period of one month.
Previously, all the players from the first batch were tested on August 16, no other positive report surfaced until now, meaning Hossain is the only athlete who will be kept in isolation at the academy.
"We have had one positive case, and his name is Iftekhar Hossain," MA Kayser, BCB's game development manager told ESPNcricinfo. "He will now be in isolation under the BCB's medical protocol. He is healthy but he is being closely monitored. We will provide him with everything during his isolation and the next course of action will be decided by the BCB's medical team."
The test for the third batch of players will undergo on Thursday. Earlier this month, opener Tamim Iqbal and Mustafizur Rahman hit the ground running in a bid to prepare themselves after a lengthy lay-off. Some of the other members of the national side started training from July 16 onwards at the academy ground.
