There are very few people in the world, who on their day can outclass the greatness of Virat Kohli. In red and gold, the number of those people gets literally down to a very few and you can actually count them on one hand. But today at the Wankhede, another name was added to that list, a young boy born in Edapal, Kerala, opening the innings for RCB with Kohli, made the great man look unnoticed at the other end as he drove himself away to his maiden IPL hundred.
Padikkal, 20, played the knock of his life while chasing down, what looked like a stiff target of 178. Thanks to his 51 ball hundred, the target was chased down by him and Kohli in the 17th over itself, winning the game by 10 wickets and 21 balls to spare. With this win, the run rate of Bengaluru has now shot up and got them to the top of the table overtaking the Chennai Super Kings.
In his innings, the left-hander Padikkal also showcased shades of former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh with his backlift his pull shots and effortless drives. His 101 run innings was supported by 11 fours and six brilliant sixes which came at the strike rate of 194, which actually hovered above 200 during most parts of the game.
With this 100, he also joined the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli to become the third batsman in the top 10 list of the most run-getters this IPL season.
