Harmanpreet Kaur Reveals The 'Biggest Threat' For MI Ahead Of WPL Final
Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning have packed quite a punch at the top for Delhi Capitals
In what promises to be a titanic tussle, Mumbai Indians will face off against Delhi Capitals in the final of the inaugural Women's Premier League at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday, March 26th.
Ahead of the crunch clash, Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has lavished praise upon the Delhi Capitals' opening pair of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, opining that they possess the finest opening combination in the competition.
Kaur is fully aware of the threat posed by the Delhi Capitals pair, especially given that they gave Mumbai Indians a torrid time during their previous encounter.
Lanning, the tournament's highest run-scorer, has amassed a staggering 310 runs in eight matches, while Verma has struck 241 runs at a blistering strike rate of 182.57.
“They have the best combination in the whole tournament and they also did well against us in the last game. We know what they (Lanning & Verma) can do and how dangerous they can be. We have our plans and hopefully we are able to execute them,” said Kaur.
The Mumbai skipper highlighted the plethora of leadership talent in her Mumbai Indians team, featuring national captains and vice-captains, such as Hayley Matthews and England's Natalie Sciver-Brunt.
In terms of the Women's Premier League's impact on Indian cricket, the 34-year-old was effusive in her praise of the tournament, suggesting that it could propel Indian women's cricket to the forefront of the sport.
Drawing parallels with the Women's Big Bash League in Australia, she spoke of the opportunities that would be available to domestic players, and how they could make the most of them. She was optimistic that within the next two to three years, India would be able to rival Australia in terms of women's cricket prowess.
"WBBL played a big role in development of cricket in their country and WPL is also going to have a same role for our cricket. The domestic players are going to get a lot of opportunities, many girls have done well as we have seen. We will start seeing the results in 2-3 years. I am confident that Indian talent is also going to do well like Australia are doing,” concluded the Punjab-based cricketer.
