Regarded as one of the finest keeper-batters of all time, legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni has enjoyed stellar success as skipper over the years. Besides leading India to three ICC titles, Dhoni has guided his T20 franchise Chennai Super Kings to four IPL titles through his astute leadership.

Apart from his on-field tactics, clear communication is a significant aspect of captaincy, as it is important for a leader to ensure transparency in a team. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has shed light on Dhoni's straightforwardness, revealing an interesting incident.

Notably, CSK had secured the services of Uthappa before the 2021 season. However, despite having a plethora of experience, the Karnataka batter was a doubtful starter in the playing XI, as the Super Kings had to choose from a plenty of quality top-order options.

Therefore, as Uthappa disclosed, Dhoni reached out to him and informed him about the uncertainty surrounding his inclusion in the playing XI. Elaborating on the matter, the veteran batter praised Dhoni for his clear communication.

Here's what he said

"MS is a very open person. He does not hesitate in speaking the truth, even if it hurts you. I remember when I was signed by CSK in the auction, he called me and said, ‘I am not sure if you’ll get a chance to play because the season is still far away and I haven’t given it any thought. If you do end up playing, I will let you know.’ By now, I had enjoyed 13 successful years in the IPL. Still, he told me to my face what he had to do. I still appreciate that a lot."

After blowing hot and cold for Rajasthan Royals, Uthappa played a key role for the Super Kings, helping them clinch their fourth IPL title in the 2021 season. However, the 37-year-old eventually announced his retirement from Indian cricket and currently features in several global T20 leagues.
