Daina Baig sidelined from Australia series and Women's T20 World Cup

Right-arm fast bowler from Pakistan, Diana Baig's road to the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 has been cut short has she has suffered a fractured index finger of her right hand while playing in the third ODI of the ongoing series against Australia.

In its official release, PCB revealed that Diana faced an injury while trying to a return catch during the second last ball of the seventh over. After which she was taken for scans to a local hospital where scans confirmed the fracture.

Further, she has been asked to receive at least four weeks of proper rest by the medical committee of the respective board.

Moreover, Baig will be replaced by Sadaf Shamas, who was earlier part of the reserves for both series.

Currently, after losing to Australia in the three match ODI series, the sides will clash in the T20I series that will begin on 24th January.

Later, World Cup will take place between 10th February and run until 26th of that month. Daina's loss is indeed a big one for the side as missing a key player of her caliber is surely to hurt the side as they are placed alongside England, India, Ireland and West Indies in Group 2.

The team still has some good names in their ranks and have what it takes to produce good results in the series. It will be interesting to see how Pakistan fare in the absence of their star player in the coming games.
