Kraigg Brathwaite urges batters to show up in Zimbabwe

West Indies Test skipper Kraigg Brathwaite wants his batting group to step up and pile runs on board in the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe starting next month in Bulawayo.

Following his team’s 2-0 sweep away against Australia in December 2022, Brathwaite expects Windies batters to play to their potential and score runs which they failed to do in the team's last series against Australia.

The tour in Down Under proved to be a chastening experience for the batters.

For the upcoming series against bottom-ranked Zimbabwe, Brathwaite is keen to see his batters spend more time in the middle. The Windies opener is also wary of the threat Zimbabwe pose in their own conditions.

“I really look forward to the batters spending time to get runs on the board. I think that will be crucial for us setting up the game to win it. We have to show our worth, I think the batters need to come and show more fight because Zimbabwe will not be easy at home. It’s not like we are going to show up and just get runs against Zimbabwe,"  said Kraigg Brathwaite ahead of the Zimbabwe tour.

Skipper Brathwaite would like to begin the 2023 season with a series win over the Chevrons. Prior to the start of the series, West Indies will play a three-day warm-up match against a local side set for January 28-30 at Bulawayo Athletic Club.

West Indies will lock horns with Zimbabwe in the opening Test of the two-match series starting Saturday, February 4th at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, and return to the same venue for the second Test bowling off Sunday, February 12th.
