Pretoria Capitals registered their second big win of the SA20 2023 season by mauling the Sunrisers Eastern Cape twice in succession. The Wayne Parnell-led side came out 37 runs on top against their visitors at Centurion, and jumped past the Paarl Royals to take the top spot at the points table.

Will Jacks engineers big win for the Capitals

The Pretoria Capitals’ innings was largely fuelled by the 111-run partnership shared between Will Jacks and Theunis de Bruyn. While the later scored a 23-ball 42, Jacks hammered a scintillating 92 off just 46 deliveries.

He whacked seven boundaries and eight sixes in the innings, and came close to what would have been his second ton in T20 cricket.

Their contribution powered the Capitals to an imposing 216-6 off their 20 overs, with Shane Dadswell providing the finishing fury at the death.

Every single Eastern Cape bowler leaked runs without much to show for in the wickets column, except for their T20 veteran Sisanda Magala. The speedster packed two wickets and conceded just 28 runs off his four overs.

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s response showed intent in doses throughout their run-chase. Captain Aiden Markram struck 46 to anchor the innings until his dismissal triggered a semi-collapse and stemmed the run-flow.

Tail-enders Marco Jansen and Brydon Carse provided some entertainment in the death overs. However, their six-hitting blitz merely managed to reduce the loss margin at the end.

Among the Capitals bowlers, captain Wayne Parnell led from the front and snared two wickets, both within the powerplay. Adil Rashid also struck twice, albeit in an expensive four-over spell.

Brief scores:

Pretoria Capitals: 216-6 (20)

Will Jacks 92 (46), Theunis de Bruyn 42 (23)
Sisanda Magala 2-28, Ottniel Baartman 2-42

Sunrisers Eastern Cape: 179-7 (20)

Aiden Markram 46 (29), Marco Jansen 36* (20)
Wayne Parnell 2-20, Adil Rashid 2-46

Pretoria Capitals won by 37 runs
