Donavon Ferreira's game changing 82, followed by a superb spell of bowling helped Joburg Super Kings to beat Durban’s Super Giants in Match 2 of SA20 by 16 runs.

Quinton de Kock's fifty in vein

Chasing the target of 191, Durban’s Super Giants got off to a flying start as the opening duo of Quinton de Kock and Kyle Mayers added 65 runs in the powerplay.

The duo went on to have a 98-run partnership for the first wicket and kept Super Giants on the driving seat after the first half of the innings. To restrict the flow of runs, Faf du Plessis handed the ball to his spinners and the likes of Reeza Hendricks and Ferreira kept it tight through the middle overs.

They brought the Super Kings back in the game by conceding only 70 off the next 10 overs. Ferreira came to the rescue with the ball as well and removed the dangerous looking de Kock.

His fallout brought a break on the run flow and the Super Giants fell completely out of the track. Just like in their bowling, Quinton de Kock and his men could not carry on the momentum after a flying start to the chase and fell 16 runs short of target at the end.

Uncapped Ferreira announces himself in style

After electing to bat first, Joburg Super Kings had a horrible start to their innings as the men in yellow were four down with just 27 on the board at the end of the powerplay.

Skipper Faf du Plessis was stranded at one end with wickets falling regularly at the other in the first six overs.. With four wickets down, du Plessis was joined by an uncapped South African Donavon Ferreira, who had to compliment his skipper to save the sinking ship.

Ferreira had a rusty start but soon started playing his shot and the Super Kings seemed to be reconstructing well. The duo of du Plessis and Ferreira added 72 runs for the 5th wicket, before du Plessis tried to accelerate against Dananjaya but mistimed and gave an easy catch to Mayers at mid wicket.

Ferreira at the other end went into a beast mode as the Pretoria born cricketer began to show why he is one of the uncapped South African players to watch out in this tournament. The right-hander was at his aggressive best and completed his half century off 28 balls.

Romario Shepherd joined the party soon after and complemented Ferreira to perfection. The duo added another 87 runs for the 7th wicket and Super Kings posted a pretty formidable 190 for 6 in 20 overs.
