Melbourne Stars will host Adelaide Strikers in the 38th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23, scheduled on January 12 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Having won five of their nine matches, Adelaide Strikers are in the upper half of the points table, ranked at the third position, while Melbourne Stars are the cellar dwellers with only two victories in nine games.

For the Stars, it has not been a merry yarn. They are on a three-match losing streak with their latest defeat coming against Hobart Hurricanes. 

Joe Clarke and Luke Wood have been their top performers as the former has scored 248 runs in nine matches, while the latter has taken 15 wickets.

The Strikers have punched like a heavyweight in the tournament with their batting doing them the favour lately. Although they lost control of the ship after the initial few games, they came back well, winning two consecutive clashes. 

Chris Lynn and Matthew Short are the highest scorers of the season so far, having gathered 393 and 359 runs respectively. Henry Thornton, who did not play in the last fixture, has been a revelation for them in the bowling department as he has claimed 16 scalps in seven games.
