The new PCB administration has scrapped The Pakistan Junior League, with the intention of 'reviving' the junior series on a home and away basis going forward.

The decision to scrap the league was pending ever-since Ramiz Raja was sacked as the PCB chairman, and the decision was taken at Saturday's PCB meeting led by Najam Sethi.

The league was Ramiz Raja's brainchild but it faced massive losses in the first season itself and as a result the future of the league was always uncertain. The two-week T20 tournament had its inaugural season from October 6 to 21, 2022.

"The PCB management committee agree to discontinue the Junior Super League. However, to ensure there is a pathway for the high-performing teenagers and the country continues to produce talented cricketers across all age gaps, it was agreed to revive junior series on a home and away basis," a PCB statement read.

It added: "It was also agreed to hold discussions with the HBL Pakistan Super League franchises to include an Under-19 player under their Emerging Categories in the playing line-ups."

A financial report revealed that the league suffered huge amount of losses in its inaugural season. As per the report, the league came in at an expense of PKR 997 million, while it only made a profit of PKR 190 million.
