Big Bash League, Renegades vs Scorchers: Preview, Prediction and Fantasy Tips

On Sunday, Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers will cross swords against each other in the 24th match of the Big Bash League 2022-23. The game is scheduled at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

The Renegades got a dream start to their campaign, winning their first three matches convincingly. After that, however, they failed to sustain their momentum and lost their way, suffering harsh defeats in their next three fixtures. Their batting, which fired initially, fell flat as the tournament progressed. Despite having a star-studded top four, the Men in Red have failed to breach the 125-run mark in the last three games, indicating how poor they have been with the bat. So, moving on to this match, they would like better returns from their batters, especially Nic Maddinson, Martin Guptill, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh.

On the other hand, the Scorchers have been absolutely clinical, with both bat and ball, in the tournament so far. Their relentless bowling unit has made it incredibly tough for the opposition to post gigantic totals. While Jhye Richardson has been a force with both new and old ball, the likes of Jason Behrendorff, Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye have struck at crucial junctures. However, their batters have been slightly inconsistent and would want better performances against the depleted Renegades.

Match Details

Date and Time: January 1, 8.10 AM
Venue: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
Live Streaming: Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV App

Pitch Report: The only game played at the Marvel Stadium this season witnessed a healthy average score of 174.5. So, we reckon the track will be good for batting, with spongy bounce for the fast bowlers. The track doesn't really slow down, which is why the toss-winning team will likely opt to chase in this game.

Predicted XIs

Melbourne Renegades have added Sam Harper to the squad; so, he might replace Peter Handscomb, who seems to be terribly out of touch.

Meanwhile, the Scorchers might bring the left-arm wrist spinner Hamish McKenzie or all-rounder Matt Kelly in place of Ashton Agar, who has joined the national team for the upcoming Sydney Test against South Africa.

Melbourne Renegades: Nic Maddinson (C), Martin Guptill, Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch, Jonathan Wells, Sam Harper (WK), Will Sutherland, Akeal Hosein, Tom Rogers, Kane Richardson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Perth Scorchers: Adam Lyth, Faf du Plessis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis (WK), Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, Matt Kelly/Hamish McKenzie, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou
