Kandy Falcons secured their second victory in a row in Match 4 of Lanka Premier League 2022. They prevailed by five wickets over Galle Gladiators on Wednesday at Hambantota.

Gladiators manage to post a below-par score

Gladiators decision to bat first backfired as Kusal Mendis (14) and Azam Khan (1) fell in quick succession. Along with both batters, Carlos Brathwaite got rid of the in-form Iftikhar Ahmed (0) as well.

Reeling at 28/5, the Gladiators needed strong support. At this point arrived Movin Subasingha and Imad Wasim, who put the team back on track with their composed innings.

Subasingha hit 40 off 38, while Wasim garnered 34 off 39 to help the team in posting 121 on the board. Brathwaite was the pick of the bowlers while finishing up with figures of 4/14 in four overs.

Falcons ace the chase

In reply, Pathum Nissanka (22) and Andre Fletcher (20) provided a good start to the Falcons. Arriving at No.3, Kamindu Mendis was impressive to garner 44 off 34, laced with four boundaries and two sixes.

Ashen Bandara (3) and Fabian Allen (10) could not contribute enough. In the end, Wanindu Hasaranga hit two boundaries to finish the game with five overs to spare. Nuwan Pradeep bagged a couple of wickets for Gladiators.
